چکیده

Belief Logic Programming (BLP) is a novel form of quantitative logic programming in the presence of uncertain and inconsistent information, which was designed to be able to combine and correlate evidence obtained from non-independent information sources. BLP has non-monotonic semantics based on the concepts of belief combination functions and DempsterShafer theory of evidence. Most importantly, unlike the previous efforts to integrate uncertainty and logic programming, BLP can correlate structural information contained in rules and provides more accurate certainty estimates. Declarative semantics is provided as well as query evaluation algorithms. Also BLP is extended to to programs with cycles and to correlated base facts. The results are illustrated via simple, yet realistic examples of rule-based Web service integration. ∗This work is part of the SILK (Semantic Inference on Large Knowledge) project sponsored by Vulcan, Inc.

Equality propositional logic and its extensions

We introduce a new formal logic, called equality propositional logic. It has two basic connectives, $boldsymbol{wedge}$ (conjunction) and $equiv$ (equivalence). Moreover, the $Rightarrow$ (implication) connective can be derived as $ARightarrow B:=(Aboldsymbol{wedge}B)equiv A$. We formulate the equality propositional logic and demonstrate that the resulting logic has reasonable properties such a...

On the compactness property of extensions of first-order G"{o}del logic

We study three kinds of compactness in some variants of G"{o}del logic: compactness, entailment compactness, and approximate entailment compactness. For countable first-order underlying language we use the Henkinconstruction to prove the compactness property of extensions offirst-order g logic enriched by nullary connective or the Baaz'sprojection connective. In the case of uncountable first-orde...

Preferential theory revision

Employing a logic program approach, this paper focuses on applying preferential reasoning to theory revision, both by means of preferences among existing theory rules, and by means of preferences on the possible abductive extensions to the theory. And, in particular, how to prefer among plausible abductive explanations justifying observations.

A Simple Separation Logic

The kinds of models that are usually considered in separation logic are structures such as words, trees, and more generally pointer structures (heaps). In this paper we introduce the separation logic of much simpler structures, viz. sets. The models of our set separation logic are nothing but valuations of classical propositional logic. Separating a valuation V consists in splitting it up into ...

Belief Maintenance with Probabilistic Logic

Belief maintenance systems are natural extensions of truth maintenance systems that use probabilities rather than boolean truth-values. This paper introduces a general method for belief maintenance, based on (the propositional fragment of) probabilistic logic, that extends the Boolean Constraint Propagation method used by the logic-based truth maintenance systems. From the concept of probabilis...
